Checking Timing
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right inner fender panel. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove upper timing belt cover.
- Rotate engine in direction of rotation and position No. 1 cylinder on TDC of compression stroke. Ensure crankshaft pulley notch aligns with mark on lower timing belt cover.
- Ensure the No. 1 on camshaft sprocket is aligned with mark on cylinder head. See Figure. If No. 1 is not aligned, rotate engine one revolution and recheck alignment. If No. 1 is not aligned, timing belt must be removed, sprockets properly positioned, and reinstalled.
CAUTION:
Timing belt must be marked for direction of rotation if belt is to be reinstalled.
