Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove timing belt, camshaft sprocket and front housing. See TIMING BELT & SPROCKETS  in this article. Remove rear housing. Refer to Figure. Using dial indicator, check camshaft end play.
  2. Replace camshaft or cylinder head if end play is not within specification. See ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove rocker arms and lash adjusters. Refer ROCKER ARMS & LASH ADJUSTERS . Mark camshaft bearing cap location for reassembly reference. Remove camshaft bearing caps and camshaft.
CAUTION: Camshaft bearing cap location must be marked prior to removing bearing caps. Bearing caps are installed so that the arrow on the caps points toward front of the engine.
