Valve Guides

  1. Valve guide can be replaced if valve stem oil clearance is not within specification. See ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To remove valve guide, heat cylinder head in water to approximately 190°F (90°C). Using Valve Guide Remover/Installer (T87C-6510-A) and hammer, drive valve guide toward the camshaft side of the cylinder head.
  3. To install, use valve guide remover/installer and install valve guide until valve guide protrusion is .752-.772" (19.10-19.61 mm) above cylinder head. See Fig 1.
NOTE: Exhaust valve guides are installed for both intake and exhaust valves when valve guides are replaced.
