Disc Brake Caliper & Pads - Rear (Mark VII): Removal

  1. Remove wheel. Disconnect parking brake cable from caliper. Remove brake hose from caliper. Remove caliper locating pins. Lift caliper away from anchor plate by pushing upward toward anchor plate and rotating lower end out of anchor plate.
  2. If insufficient clearance between caliper and disc pads prevent removal of caliper, loosen parking brake end retainer a maximum of 1/2 turn. This will allow piston to be forced back into bore.
  3. To loosen end retainer, remove parking brake lever. Match mark end retainer and caliper to ensure no more than 1/2 turn. Force piston back into bore and remove caliper. If more than 1/2 turn is made caliper must be overhauled.
  4. Remove outer disc pad from anchor plate. Remove 2 rotor retainer nuts and remove rotor from axle. Remove inner disc pad.
