Disc Brake Caliper & Pads - Rear (Mark VII): Installation

  1. If end retainer has been loosened 1/2 turn, install caliper on anchor plate without installing disc pads. Tighten end retainer to 75-96 ft. lbs. (102-130 N.m). Install parking brake lever with arm down and rearward. Tighten retainer bolt to 16-22 ft. lbs (22-30 N.m).
  2. If new disc pads are being installed, leave caliper attached to anchor plate as in step 1). Using piston remover, screw piston into bore until there is no further inward movement of piston and remover handle is rotated until there is firm seating force. Remove caliper and piston remover.
  3. Lubricate anchor plate sliding surface with high temperature grease. Install inner disc pad and anti-rattle clip. Install rotor. Install outer disc pad. Place upper tab of caliper on anchor plate and rotate caliper into position.
  4. Perform piston position adjustment. See REAR CALIPER PISTON POSITION  under ADJUSTMENTS in this article. Lubricate locating pins and inside insulators with Dielectric Compound (D7AZ-19A331-A). Add one drop of Threadlock and Sealer (EOAC-16554-A) to locating pin threads. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Bleed and adjust brakes as necessary.
