Drum Brake Shoe & Lining - Probe
- Remove grease cap from hub. Remove cotter pin and hub retaining nut. Remove flat washer and outer bearing. Remove wheel, drum and hub assembly as a unit, being careful not to drag seal across spindle threads.
- Remove brake shoe return springs and anti-rattle spring. Remove brake shoe hold-down springs. Using a screwdriver, push in and twist hold-down spring to disengage it from hold-down pin.
- Remove rear brake shoe from the parking brake strut. Remove front brake shoe. Remove wheel cylinder (if necessary).NOTE: Unless broken or worn, leave parking brake strut adjuster mechanism and adjuster spring in place.
- Clean backing plate with an approved vacuum cleaner. Remove parking brake strut adjuster mechanism, and adjuster spring (if necessary). Use proper grease to lubricate shoe contact pads, adjuster mechanism toothed quadrant and anchor plate section where the shoes ride.
- Install and tighten wheel cylinder (if removed). Position rear brake shoe into parking brake strut and install rear hold-down pin and spring. Install brake shoe return springs.
- Insert a screwdriver between knurled quadrant and parking brake strut. Twist screwdriver until quadrant just touches backing plate. See Figure . To complete reassembly, reverse remainder of disassembly procedure. Bleed brakes (if necessary).
