Disc Brake Caliper - Rear (Mark VII): Disassembly

  1. Remove caliper. Remove parking brake lever and end retainer. Lift out operating shaft, thrust bearing and balls. See Fig 1 . Using magnet or tweezers, remove anti-rotation pin.
  2. If anti-rotation pin will not come out, use piston remover and move piston out of caliper until it protrudes 1" from bore. Push piston back into bore with remover. With remover still in position, hold remover shaft and rotate handle counterclockwise until anti-rotation pin is clear of thrust screw. Remove anti-rotation pin.
CAUTION: DO NOT press or attempt to move adjuster can. It is a press fit in the piston.
  3. Using an Allen wrench, remove thrust screw by rotating counterclockwise. Using piston remover, installed on back side, remove piston/adjuster assembly from caliper. Remove and discard seals, dust boot and pin insulators.
