Tachometer Test
- If other gauges also do not function, ensure 10-Amp "Meter" fuse in fuse panel is okay. Ensure Black/Yellow wire from fuse panel to instrument cluster supplies 12-volts with ignition on (gauge voltage is regulated to 7 volts). If fuse blows check for short to ground in Black/Yellow wire circuit. Ensure there is continuity between the Black (ground) wire at the instrument cluster connector and a good chassis and engine ground.
- If tachometer is inoperative, turn ignition on, disconnect Yellow/Blue wire (Tracer) or Yellow/Green wire (Festiva) from ignition coil. Watch tachometer and quickly touch wire to a 12-volt source. If tachometer needle "jumps" check vehicle ignition system.
- If tachometer needle does not "jump", go to the instrument cluster connector and quickly jump 12-volts to the Yellow/Blue wire (Tracer) or Yellow/Green wire (Festiva). If tachometer needle "jumps", repair wiring circuit between coil and instruments. If not, replace tachometer.
