Hub Bearings & Seal: Installation
- If bearings have been replaced, press new bearing outer races into hub with Bearing Race Replacer (T75T-1225-A and T75T-1225-B) and Threaded Drawbar (T75T-1176-A). Ensure bearing race is seated correctly. A .0015" (.038 mm) feeler gauge should not fit between hub and bearing race.
- Pack bearings with multipurpose, lithium base grease. Place inner bearing in hub. Using Seal Replacer (T75T-1175-B) and Threaded Drawbar (T75T-1176-A), install new seal. Tape over threads on end of spindle. Slide hub assembly over spindle. Ensure seal lips are not damaged during hub installation.
- Remove tape and install outer bearing and adjustment nut. Install Hub Wrench (T85T-4252-AH) so drive tangs of tool engage 4 slots in nut. Using a torque wrench, tighten hub nut to 65-75 ft. lbs. (88-102 N.m). Rotate wheel during tightening process.
- After tightening to specification, ratchet back 90 degrees and tighten to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 N.m). Install axle shaft with new flange gasket, lock washers and new axle shaft retaining bolts. Tighten axle shaft bolts to 40-55 ft. lbs. (54-75 N.m). Adjust brakes (if necessary).
