Wheel Bearings (2WD)
- Raise vehicle. Remove wheel cover and grease cap. Remove cotter pin and retainer.
- Loosen adjusting nut 3 turns. Obtain running clearance between brake rotor surface and lining by rocking entire wheel assembly several times to push caliper and brake pads away from rotor.
- An alternate method to obtain running clearance may be done by lightly tapping on the caliper housing. Do not tap on any area that may damage the rotor and lining. DO NOT pry on the phenolic caliper piston.
- The running clearance must be maintained throughout bearing adjustment procedure. If proper clearance cannot be maintained, caliper must be removed.
- While turning rotor tighten nut to 22-25 ft. lbs. (30-33 N.m). Back off adjusting nut 1/8 turn. Install retainer and cotter pin without loosening retaining nut. Bearing end play should be .001-.010" (.025-.254 mm).
