Scorpio (Warning Light)

  1. Determine if low fuel light agrees with fuel gauge reading. If not, go to step 3). If low fuel light does agree with fuel gauge, disconnect fuel tank sender connector inside luggage compartment. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between pins No. 1 and 2 of pigtail side of connector. See Fig 1 . With a full tank, resistance should be approximately 19 ohms. With an empty tank, resistance should be approximately 250 ohms.

  2. If resistance is correct, repair short or open in sender wiring between sender and luggage compartment. If resistance is not correct, replace fuel and temperature gauge assembly.
  3. Determine if low fuel light illuminates for 5 seconds during initial engine start. If not, go to step 4). If light illuminates, replace fuel and temperature gauge assembly.
  4. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Check if high temperature, high beam and light-out warning lights illuminate for 5 seconds when ignition switch is first turned to "RUN" position. If lights do illuminate, replace low fuel warning light bulb or repair open in club check circuit. If lights do not illuminate, repair auxiliary warning module and/or circuit.
