Removal (Stamped Front "I" Beam Axle)
- Raise vehicle and support vehicle on safety stands. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Remove brake caliper and wire it up out of the way. Remove brake rotor and dust shield. Disconnect steering linkage from spindle using Tie Rod Remover (3290-C).
- Remove the cotter pin and nuts from upper ball joint. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the lower ball joint nut from the stud. Strike knuckle as shown to remove from axle. See Fig 1 . Remove spindle from vehicle.
NOTE:
DO NOT use a pickle fork to separate the ball joint from the spindle as this will damage the seal and ball joint socket.
