E, 1/2 & F Symbols Flash

  1. Disconnect connector at fuel sender and short wiring connector terminals with jumper wire. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC" and check gauge symbols. If E, 1/2 or F symbols continue flashing, proceed to step 2). If symbols do not flash, proceed to step 3).
  2. Check the Black wire at fuel sender for proper ground. If ground connection is okay, proceed to step 4). If ground not okay, service ground circuit.
  3. Remove fuel circuit and check for open in circuit. If ohmmeter reading is greater than 300 ohms, replace fuel sender. If reading less than 300 ohms, inspect female connector for flash or loose fit. Service as necessary.
  4. Reconnect fuel sender and short fuel gauge stud (circuit 29) to ground stud at back of fuel gauge. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC" and check symbols for continued flashing. If symbols still flash, replace gauge. If symbols do not flash, service open circuit between fuel gauge printed circuit and fuel sender.
