Idle Speed: Adjustments

1. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
2. Place transmission in Park, if automatic transmission, or Neutral, if manual transmission.
3. Set A/C to off position and set parking brake.
4. Remove air cleaner.
5. Disconnect and plug decel throttle control vacuum line. Steps 5 through 9 do not apply to vehicles with calibration code 5-97J-R00 or 5-98J-R00.
6. Connect vacuum jumper hose from engine manifold vacuum to decel throttle control.
7. Operate engine at 2500 RPM for 15 seconds, then release throttle.
8. If decel throttle control speed is not within 50 RPM of specification, adjust kicker.
9. Disconnect jumper hose and allow engine to return to curb idle speed.
10. Adjust curb idle speed, if necessary, by turning curb idle adjusting screw with transmission in Neutral, if manual transmission, or Drive, if automatic transmission.
11. Open throttle momentarily, and recheck curb idle speed. Adjust, if necessary.
12. Reconnect decel throttle control vacuum line to unit. Reinstall air cleaner.
