STALL (7.5L) - ON COLD DRIVEAWAY

LIGHT TRUCK 1985 E & F250/350

CALIBRATIONS: 5-97J-R00 and 5-98J-R00

WARNING: This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

Some trucks built between January 2 and March 30, 1985 with engine calibrations 5-97J-R00 and 5-98JR00 may stall on cold driveaway. This condition is caused by the choke coming off too soon.

The service procedure for correcting this condition is as follows:

Inspect the choke cap to determine if it is the latest design level, 47R-787, stamped on the choke cap. If the choke cap has the obsolete part number, 47R-758, remove and discard the choke cap and install choke cap E5PZ-9848-B.

Refer to the 1985 Light Truck Shop Manual, Volume B, pages 24-26-13 through 24-26-19 for disassembly and assembly procedures.

If the choke cap is the latest design level, the condition may be corrected by referring to Section 4, Choke/Cold Enrichment Adjustment, of the 1985 Car/Truck Shop Manual, Volume H.

Authorized Modifications Decal:

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
