Starter No-Load Test

Fig. 6 Starter no-load test connections:

1. Connect test equipment as shown, Fig. 6.
2. Ensure that no current is flowing through ammeter, then determine exact reading on voltmeter.
3. Disconnect starter from battery, then reduce resistance of rheostat until voltmeter indicates same reading as while starter was running. Ammeter should read 70 amps on 4 inch diameter starter, or 80 amps on 4{1/2} inch diameter starter.
