Valve Springs And/Or Valve Stem Oil Seals: Removal

  1. Remove air cleaner. Remove screw retaining heater hose to valve cover. Disconnect vacuum hoses as necessary. Disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs and position aside.
  2. Remove valve cover from engine. Using valve spring compressor lever (T74P-6565-A or equivalent), compress valve spring and remove rocker arm.
  3. Remove spark plug and place air line adapter (6513-ABA or equivalent) into spark plug hole. Apply 140 psi to cylinder.
  4. Again compress valve spring and remove retainer locks and spring retainer. Release pressure from valve spring and remove spring. Remove and discard valve stem oil seal.
