Piston & Rod Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove cylinder head. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove engine mount to chassis bracket nuts. Remove starter lead wires and remove starter.
  2. Place a block of wood on a transmission jack and position jack under engine. Raise engine as high as it will go.
  3. Place wood blocks between engine mounts and chassis brackets to support engine. Remove jack. Remove rear engine support to crossmember nuts.
  4. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and remove oil pan. Remove oil pump pick-up tube. Remove connecting rod cap and bearing.
  5. Push pistons up into cylinder bores. Lower vehicle from hoist. Remove pistons from cylinder bores.
