Crankshaft End Play

NOTE: Engine must be removed from vehicle to check crankshaft end play.
  1. Force crankshaft toward rear of engine. attach dial indicator to rear of engine so that indicator contact rests against crankshaft flange.
  2. Zero dial indicator. Push crankshaft forward and note dial indicator reading.
  3. If end play exceeds specification, replace thrust bearing. If end play is less than specified, check for damaged or improperly aligned thrust bearing.
