Steering Knuckle: Installation

  1. Place bearing in bore with manufacturer identification facing outward. Drive bearing into bore. Install grease seal in bearing bore with lip side of seal facing upwards. Coat bearing seal lip with multi-purpose lubricant.
  2. If removed, install new shaft seal. On right side of carrier, install rubber boot and new keystone clamps on stub shaft slip yoke.
  3. To assemble right shaft and joint into slip yoke, align missing spline in slip yoke barrel with gapless spline on shaft and joint assembly.
  4. Slide right shaft and joint into slip yoke. Be sure splines are fully engaged. Slide boot over assembly and tighten keystone clamp.
  5. On left side of carrier, slide shaft and joint assembly through knuckle and engage splines on shaft in carrier. Install splash shield and spindle onto steering knuckle. Tighten spindle nuts.
  6. To complete steering knuckle installation, reverse removal procedures.
