Diagnostic Test
- VERIFY B012C-64-PASSENGER EARLY CRASH SIGNAL SENSOR - SIGNAL PLAUSIBILITY FAILURE IS ACTIVE WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
NOTE:If after the harness inspection it appears the impact sensor connector is only seated halfway. Reseat the harness connector into the impact sensor and lock the tab.
WARNING:Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display active: B012C-64-PASSENGER EARLY CRASH SIGNAL SENSOR - SIGNAL PLAUSIBILITY FAILURE?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- CHECK THE (R80) AND (R82) FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the (special tool #10159, Test Leads, Dedicated), test lead 10159-6. Or a comparable test lead to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- Connect the test probes to the appropriate ORC harness connector terminal(s).
- Measure the voltage of the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit and the (R82) Sensor Ground circuit at the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (R80) and (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor circuits for a short to battery.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (R80) AND (R82) FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R80) and (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor circuits at the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100K Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R80) and (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor circuits for a short to ground.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R80) and (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor circuits at the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
- CHECK THE (R80) AND (R82) FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- Measure the resistance between the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit and the (R82) Sensor Ground circuit at the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100K Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R80) and (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor circuits shorted together.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Measure the resistance between the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit and the (R82) Sensor Ground circuit at the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector.
- CHECK THE (R82) FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor Ground circuit between the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal at the ORC connector.
Is the resistance below 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (R82) Front Right Impact Sensor Ground circuit between the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal at the ORC connector.
- CHECK THE (R80) FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit between the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal of the ORC connector.
Is the resistance below 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (R80) Front Right Impact Sensor Signal circuit between the Front Right Impact Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal of the ORC connector.
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE FRONT RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR
- Replace the Front Right Impact Sensor. Refer to SENSOR, IMPACT, REMOVAL .
- Reconnect the vehicle body harness to the impact sensor.
- Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase the stored codes in all airbag system modules.
- Turn the Ignition Off, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
- Wait one minute, and read active codes and if there are none present read the stored codes.
Did the active Front Right Impact Sensor DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- REPLACE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL ).
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
