Motor, Park Pawl: Inspection

WARNING:
When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.
- This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
- The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
- The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
- The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
- The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
- Remove the rubber plug (1) to access the motor shaft.
- Insert a 5/32 in. hex head wrench into the access hole and rotate the shaft to either direction until there is resistance, indicating full travel into the stopped position.NOTE:
Full travel from one stop to the other is approximately 19 full revolutions.
- Using a torque wrench, continue to attempt to rotate the shaft in the same direction.
- Read the torque value. If the torque required to rotate the shaft does not reach 2.5 N.m, the shaft spline is stripped and the motor MUST be replaced.
- Once 2.5 N.m is attained, stop attempting to rotate the shaft.NOTE:
2.5 Exceeding 2.5 N.m torque while rotating the shaft can damage the motor shaft spline by stripping the gear teeth.
- Once the inspection is complete, insert the rubber plug to prevent debris from entering the motor.
