Module, Onboard Charging (OBCM): Installation: Overview

WARNING:

When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.

  • This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
  • The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
  • The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
  • The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
  • The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
CAUTION:

Do not allow coolant to come in contact with any high voltage component electrical connections. Engine coolant will create a conductive path and cannot be effectively removed resulting in a loss of isolation and replacement of the contaminated high voltage component.

NOTE:

A new On-board Charging Module (OBCM) is received in "Plant Mode" and must be upgraded to "Normal Mode" by conducting the Plant Mode charging test to unlock its full functionality.

  1. Install the onboard charging module (OBCM) (2) and the six OBCM bolts (1).

  2. Install new clamps (1) on the OBCM coolant hoses, connect the hoses to the OBCM, and tighten the clamps.

  3. Connect the three OBCM high-voltage electrical connectors (1), and the OBCM 12-volt electrical connector (2).

  4. Install the OBCM connector shield, and the two OBCM connector shield nuts (1).
  5. Connect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  6. Perform the LOSS OF ISOLATION CHECK. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
  7. Power up the high-voltage system. Refer to HIGH-VOLTAGE POWER UP .
  8. Fill the power electronics cooling system. Refer to POWER ELECTRONICS COOLANT FILLING .
  9. Perform the Plant Mode charging test as follows to place the OBCM in Normal Mode;
    • Plug in the Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) to activate the OBCM Plant Mode self-test.
    • The OBCM will perform a charging test for 25 seconds and then automatically terminate charging.
    • Remove the EVSE from the vehicle.
    • The OBCM is now in Normal Mode. If Normal Mode is not achieved, verify proper EVSE operation. Refer to MODULE, ONBOARD CHARGING (OBCM), INSTALLATION .
NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
