Onboard Charging Module (OBCM) Plant Mode Charging Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

A new OBCM is received in "Plant Mode" and must be upgraded to "Normal Mode" by conducting the Plant Mode charging test to unlock its full functionality.

  1. CHECK ELECTRIC VEHICLE SERVICE EQUIPMENT (EVSE) OPERATION 
    • Remove the charge connector from the charging station.
    • Are the "POWER PRESENT" and "READY TO CHARGE" indicators ON?
    • Yes  - Continue to Step 2.
    • No  - Diagnose the EVSE for an electrical supply issue.
  2. CHECK EVSE VEHICLE CONNECTION 
    • Plug the charge connector into the vehicle.
    • Did the "VEHICLE CONNECTED" indicator turn ON?
    • Yes  - Continue to Step 3.
    • No  - Continue to Step 6.
  3. CHECK EVSE VEHICLE CHARGING 
    • Within 10 seconds of plugging the charge connector into the vehicle, does the "VEHICLE CONNECTED" indicator turn OFF and does "VEHICLE CHARGING" turn ON?
    • Yes  - Continue to Step 4.
    • No  - Continue to Step 7.
  4. CHECK EVSE CHARGE SEQUENCE 

    The OBCM will perform a charging test for 25 seconds and then automatically terminate charging. The OBCM will collect and store the charging related data in non-volatile memory.

    • Did the "VEHICLE CHARGING" indicator remain ON for less than 25 seconds resulting in the "TROUBLE" indicator turning ON or flashing?
    • Yes  - Continue to Step 5.
    • No  - Refer to the appropriate EVSE diagnostic information to diagnose a trouble indicator flash code.
  5. CHECK OBCM NORMAL MODE ENABLED 
    • Is the "VEHICLE CHARGING" indicator OFF and the "VEHICLE CONNECTED" indicator ON?
    • Yes  - OBCM Normal mode is enabled. Remove the charge connector from the vehicle and return it to the charging station.
    • No  - Diagnose a vehicle electrical issue. If no trouble is found, the OBCM is defective.
  6. CHECK FOR EVSE FAULT 
    • Did the EVSE "TROUBLE" indicator turn ON or flash?
    • Yes  - Refer to the appropriate EVSE diagnostic information to diagnose a trouble indicator flash code.
    • No  - Diagnose a vehicle wiring electrical issue related to the OBCM.
  7. CHECK FOR EVSE FAULT 
    • Did the EVSE "TROUBLE" indicator turn ON or flash?
    • Yes  - Refer to the appropriate EVSE diagnostic information to diagnose a trouble indicator flash code.
    • No  - Diagnose a wiring issue related to electric vehicle control.
