Diagnostic Test
- SELECT ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED DRIVER SEAT BELT TENSIONER (ANCHOR) WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) harness connector.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) harness connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B0106-1A-FRONT DRIVER PRETENSIONER (ANCHOR) - CIRCUIT RESISTANCE BELOW THRESHOLD?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) harness connector.
- CHECK THE (R278) DRIVER SEAT BELT TENSIONER (ANCHOR) LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R277) DRIVER SEAT BELT TENSIONER (ANCHOR) LINE 2 CIRCUIT WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) from the Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the (special tool #10159, Test Leads, Dedicated), test lead 10159-6. Or a comparable test lead to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- Connect the test probes to the appropriate ORC harness connector terminal(s).
- Measure the resistance between the (R278) Driver Seat Belt Retractor (Anchor) Line 1 circuit and the (R277) Driver Seat Belt Retractor (Anchor) Line 2 circuit at the appropriate cavities.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (R278) Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) Line 1 circuit and the (R277) Driver Seat Belt Tensioner (Anchor) Line 2 circuit.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECKING STORED OR INTERMITTENT CODES NOTE:
Diagnose and repair all active codes before diagnosing stored codes. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX for a complete list of airbag system diagnostic procedures.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors for chaffed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires, and for broken, bent, pushed out, corroded, and contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and harness connectors.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, monitor for active codes while performing the following:
- Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related airbag circuit.
- Continue the test until either a code becomes active or the problem area is isolated.
- In the previous steps you have attempted to recreate the conditions responsible for setting the DTC in question/causing the intermittent condition.
Are any ACTIVE DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- No problem found at this time. Erase all codes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.
