WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, power down the 12 volt system, Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
  3. Disconnect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  4. Unsnap the plastic covers over the two mounting holes (1) used to secure the upper trim cover to the inner liftgate panel above the glass.
  5. Remove the two screws that secure the upper trim cover to the inner liftgate panel.

  6. Pull the upper trim cover away from the liftgate far enough to access the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) (2) secured to the back of the trim cover.
  7. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the connector receptacle on the left end of the CHMSL socket plate.
  8. Remove the two screws that secure the CHMSL to the back of the upper trim cover.
  9. Remove the CHMSL from the back of the upper trim cover.
