Vehicles equipped with the optional hands free phone system have a microphone mounted above a grille in the center of the courtesy lamp unit, which is located between the two sun visors in the headliner near the windshield opening header. The microphone is powered by and provides a hardwired input to the Radio Receiver Module (RRM) within the instrument panel behind the glove box whenever the Voice Recognition (VR) feature of the hands free phone system is active. This microphone is connected to the vehicle electrical system through a pigtail wire harness to a dedicated take out and connector of the overhead wire harness.

The microphone cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced.
