Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Press and release the Speed Control Switches three times.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT NOTE:
Inspect the wiring harness between the SCM and Right Steering Wheel (Speed Control) Switch for any damage or loose connections. Repair as necessary.
- CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH
- Turn the ignition off.
- Perform the Right Steering Wheel (Speed Control) Switch functionality test. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - SPEED CONTROL SWITCH
.
Does the Right Steering Wheel (Speed Control) Switch operate correctly?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Right Steering Wheel (Speed Control) Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, SPEED CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE RIGHT STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND SCM
- Disconnect the SCM C4 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit between the Right Steering Wheel Switch harness connector and SCM C4 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE SCM AND BCM
- Disconnect the SCM C1 harness connector.
- Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit between the SCM C1 harness connector and BCM C4 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE SCM
- Connect the BCM C4 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between ground and the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit at the SCM C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC B1075-11-CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND as active?
Yes
- Replace the SCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CLOCKSPRING, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), EMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RIGHT STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND SCM
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the SCM C4 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit at the SCM C4 harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE SCM AND BCM
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the SCM C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit at the SCM C1 harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the SCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CLOCKSPRING, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
