Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    3. Record the Environmental Data.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Wait 10 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Press and release the Speed Control Switches three times.
    9. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
  2. CHECK THE RIGHT STEERING WHEEL (SPEED CONTROL) SWITCH 
    NOTE:

    Inspect the wiring harness between the SCM and Right Steering Wheel (Speed Control) Switch for any damage or loose connections. Repair as necessary.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Right Steering Wheel Switch harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Wait 10 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE SCM AND RIGHT STEERING WHEEL SWITCH 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the SCM C4 harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between ground and the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit at the SCM C4 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT AT THE SCM C4 HARNESS CONNECTOR 
    1. Check for continuity between the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit all other circuits at the SCM C4 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit and any other circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short between the circuits that have continuity. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE (SCM) 
    NOTE:

    Disregard any additional Steering Column DTCs that may set when performing this step.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the SCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Wait 10 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

  6. CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE BCM AND SCM 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between ground and the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit at the SCM C1 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE (V72) S/C SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT AT THE SCM C1 HARNESS CONNECTOR 
    1. Check for continuity between the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit all other circuits at the SCM C1 harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (V72) S/C Signal 2 circuit and any other circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short between the circuits that have continuity. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
