Section 61 (C510 Manual Transmission (Service Information) - 500): Removal

  1. Remove battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly. Refer to AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL .
  4. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. Drain engine coolant. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  6. Remove both right and left vertical braces.
  7. Remove both head lamp assemblies. Refer to UNIT, HEADLAMP, REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the cooling system module.
  9. Remove the charged air cooler outlet hose from throttle body.
  10. Remove the ground strap from the transmission.

  11. Disconnect reverse lamp switch connector (1).

  12. Remove the concentric slave cylinder hose (2) and secure out of the way.

  13. Disconnect shift selector cable (1) from the lever.

  14. Disconnect the cables from the mounting bracket by pulling collar (1) back and lifting cable up.

  15. Disconnect the shift cable (1) from lever.

  16. Remove upper bell housing bolts (1).
  17. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  18. Remove the belly pan if equipped. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .

  19. Remove the cross car cradle brace (1).
  20. Drain the transaxle fluid Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  21. Remove both halfshafts. Refer to REMOVAL .
  22. Remove the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL .

  23. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire from the loom/clip (1).
  24. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  25. Remove exhaust extension pipe.
  26. Carefully support the engine with a screw jack or the equivalent.
  27. Install a suitable transmission jack to the transmission.

  28. Remove the left side bolts (1) and mount.

  29. Loosen the rear transmission mount bolt (4) from the frame.

  30. Remove the rear transmission mount bracket bolt (1) and bracket from transmission.

  31. Remove the remaining transmission bell housing bolts (3).
  32. Remove the nut (1) holding the transmission to the engine.
  33. Pull the engine forward to gain clearance for the stud passing through the engine block.
  34. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
