Manual Park Engage - Vehicle Will Not Shift To Park
The Manual Park Engage procedure is intended as a method to place the vehicle in PARK, and allow it to be started, if the park motor has become jammed.
It is not necessary to carry out the manual park engage procedure to start the vehicle if the park pawl will not engage due to a discharged 12-volt battery. If the 12-volt battery is discharged, it may be jumped with an external 12-volt power supply. With the external 12-volt power supply attached, the vehicle can be shifted to PARK.
On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Power down the 12-volt system. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
- With the vehicle on a flat surface, release the parking brake and attempt to roll the vehicle to confirm it is in park.
- Remove the rubber access plug (1) On the park pawl motor.
- Perform the Park Motor Inspection. Refer to MOTOR, PARK PAWL, INSPECTION .
- Insert a 5/32 in. hex wrench (1) into the access hole in the park pawl motor to mate with the park pawl motor shaft. Rotate the shaft counterclockwise until it no longer turns easily. Do not exceed 2.5 N.m (22 in. lb.) of force.NOTE:
Over-torque of the shaft will damage the motor.
- Rotate the hex wrench (1) back clockwise 1/4 to 1/2 turn to makes sure the park pawl motor is not bottomed out. The park pawl should now be engaged, and the vehicle should be in PARK.
- Install the rubber access plug.
- Connect the 12-volt battery negative cable. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
