Motor, Park Pawl: Removal

WARNING:

When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.

  • This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
  • The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
  • The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
  • The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
  • The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.

The bolts that secure the park motor to the gearbox MUST be replaced. DO NOT REUSE THE BOLTS. 

  1. Power down the 12-volt battery system. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING .

  3. Remove the three park pawl motor screws (2).
  4. Discard the bolts.

  5. Partially remove the park pawl motor, and disconnect the park pawl motor electrical connector (1).
  6. Remove the park pawl motor.
    NOTE:

    If it is suspected that broken parts or metal pieces/shavings are inside the gearbox, the gearbox must be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled.

  7. Inspect the removed park pawl motor to verify that the park pawl motor shaft and shaft nut were removed with the motor. If necessary, remove the shaft and/or shaft nut from the gearbox assembly using needle nose pliers or similar.
