Compressor, Electric Air Conditioning (EAC): Installation

WARNING:

When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.

  • This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
  • The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
  • The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
  • The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
  • The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.

  1. Install the electric air conditioning compressor (EAC) onto the EAC bracket, and install and tighten the two EAC bolts (1) to 20 Nm (15 lb. ft.).

  2. Install and tighten the two EAC front bracket nuts (1), and the EAC front bracket bolt (2) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

  3. Install and tighten the two EAC rear bracket nuts (2), and the EAC rear bracket bolt (1) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

  4. Install and tighten the EAC ground strap bolt (1) to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).

  5. Install a new O-ring seal on the EAC suction fitting. Connect the fitting, and install and tighten the EAC suction fitting nut (1) to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).

  6. Install a new O-ring seal on the EAC discharge fitting. Connect the fitting, and install and tighten the EAC discharge fitting nut (1) to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).

  7. Connect the EAC 12-volt electrical connector (2).
  8. Connect the EAC high-voltage electrical connector (1).
  9. Connect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  10. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  11. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  12. Perform the LOSS OF ISOLATION CHECK. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
  13. Power up the high-voltage system. Refer to HIGH-VOLTAGE POWER UP .
  14. Install the electric motor beauty cover. Refer to COVER, BEAUTY, INSTALLATION .
