Sensor, Intelligent Battery - 12-Volt Battery: Installation
On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.
- This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
- The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
- The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
- The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
- The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
Connecting the negative battery cable to the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) must be done before installing on the battery post.
DO NOT use a hammer to tap down the sensor. Use a post spreader to open the post if reusing the existing sensor.
Avoid IBS rotation during tightening of M8 nut as to avoid contact of 2 way connector breakage when rotating in to the battery.
- Place the IBS onto the negative battery post and push the IBS down until properly seated on the cone of the post.
- Tighten the M6 pole clamp (1) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS

- Connect the negative battery cables (2) to the IBS M8 stud and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS
.NOTE:
M8 has much higher torque than the M6 clamp and can break IBS free if the M6 is tightened prior.
- Install the two-pin connector (Power & LIN) (1). Make sure there is no stress on the wires .
- Install the components removed to access the battery. Refer to BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
- Perform the LOSS OF ISOLATION CHECK. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
- Power up the high-voltage system. Refer to HIGH-VOLTAGE POWER UP .
