Diagnostic Test
- VERIFY ACTIVE B012E-96-PASSENGER DOOR PRESSURE SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE - DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
Does the scan tool display an active: B012E-96-PASSENGER DOOR PRESSURE SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE - DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- CHECK THE (R140), (R160) RIGHT SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL AND GROUND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Door Pressure Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connector.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:After disconnecting the ORC module and the ORC module body harness connector, check the ORC module body harness connector shorting bar pin location. The shorting bar pin location should be down and not visible through the larger center holes of the ORC module body harness connector.
WARNING:Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the voltage of the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit and (R160) Sensor Ground circuit at the appropriate terminal of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and ground.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (R140), (R160) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor circuits for a short to voltage.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (R140) RIGHT SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the resistance of the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between the appropriate terminal of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and ground.
Is the resistance below 20 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure the resistance of the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between the appropriate terminal of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and ground.
- CHECK THE (R140), (R160) RIGHT SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- Measure the resistance between the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor 4 Signal circuit and the (R160) Sensor Ground circuits at the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance below 20 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R140), (R160) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor circuits shorted together.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Measure the resistance between the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor 4 Signal circuit and the (R160) Sensor Ground circuits at the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector.
- CHECK THE (R160) RIGHT SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the (special tool #10159, Test Leads, Dedicated), test lead 10159-6. Or a comparable test lead to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- Connect the test probes to the appropriate ORC harness connector terminal(s).
- Measure the resistance of the (R160) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Ground circuit between terminal 2 of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and the appropriate cavity of test tool.
Is the resistance below 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (R160) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
- CHECK THE (R140) RIGHT SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between terminal 1 of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and the appropriate cavity of test tool.
Is the resistance below 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (R140) Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between terminal 1 of the Right Side Impact Pressure Sensor harness connector and the appropriate cavity of test tool.
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE PASSENGER DOOR PRESSURE SENSOR
- Replace the Passenger Door Pressure Sensor. Refer to SENSOR, IMPACT, REMOVAL .
- Reconnect the vehicle body harness to the impact sensor.
- Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase the stored codes in all airbag system modules.
- Turn the Ignition Off, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
- Wait one minute, and read active codes and if there are none present read the stored codes.
Did the active B012E-96-PASSENGER DOOR PRESSURE SENSOR (SATELLITE) - COMPONENT INTERNAL FAILURE DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- REPLACE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
Repair
- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
