Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED SQUIB CIRCUITS IN RIGHT SEAT SQUIB AIRBAG WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Right Seat Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
To avoid serious or fatal injury, do not place an intact uncoupled Seat Squib Airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag will propel into the air if accidentally deployed.
NOTE:Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) or (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Right Seat Airbag connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display: B0109-12-FRONT PASSENGER SIDEBAG - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY - DTC?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Right Seat Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, SEAT, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Right Seat Airbag harness connector.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED RIGHT SEAT AIRBAG SQUIB CIRCUITS IN THE SEAT BACK WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Right Seat Airbag in-line connector (under Right Seat).NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) or (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Right Seat Airbag in-line connector (Body Side).WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display : B0109-12-FRONT PASSENGER SIDEBAG - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY - DTC?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Right Seat Airbag wiring harness (Side Airbag Jumper). Right Seat Airbag circuits shorted to high between the in-line connector (Side Airbag Jumper) and the Right Seat Airbag connector.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Right Seat Airbag in-line connector (under Right Seat).
- CHECK (R6) RIGHT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT AND (R8) RIGHT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) or (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) from the Right Seat Airbag connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the (special tool #10159, Test Leads, Dedicated), test lead 10159-6. Or a comparable test lead to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- Connect the test probes to the appropriate ORC harness connector terminal(s).WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the voltage of the (R6) Right Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between the appropriate cavity and ground.
- Measure the voltage of the (R8) Right Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the appropriate cavity and ground.
Is there any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
- In accordance with Service Information repair or replace the Right Seat circuits. Right Seat circuits shorted high between the in-line connector (body side) and the SRS Load Tool
(32 way) harness connector.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- In accordance with Service Information repair or replace the Right Seat circuits. Right Seat circuits shorted high between the in-line connector (body side) and the SRS Load Tool
- CHECKING STORED OR INTERMITTENT CODES NOTE:
Diagnose and repair all active codes before diagnosing stored codes. Refer to the DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX for a complete list of airbag system diagnostic procedures.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires, and for broken, bent, pushed out, corroded, and contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and harness connectors.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, monitor for active codes while performing the following:
- Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related airbag circuit.
- Continue the test until either a code becomes active or the problem area is isolated.
- In the previous steps you have attempted to recreate the conditions responsible for setting the DTC in question/causing the intermittent condition.
Are any ACTIVE DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate DTC. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- No problem found at this time. Erase all codes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.
