Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- CHECK FOR OPEN LEFT SEAT AIRBAG SQUIB WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
Do not place an intact non-deployed Seat Squib Airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag will propel into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) to the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B0108-1B-FRONT DRIVER SIDEBAG - CIRCUIT RESISTANCE ABOVE THRESHOLD - DTC?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Left Seat Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.
- CHECK FOR A OPEN LEFT SEAT AIRBAG SQUIB CIRCUIT IN THE SEAT BACK WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (under Left Seat).NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) to the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (Body Side).WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B0108-1B-FRONT DRIVER SIDEBAG - CIRCUIT RESISTANCE ABOVE THRESHOLD - DTC?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Left Seat Airbag wiring harness (Side Airbag Jumper). Open Left Seat Airbag circuits between the in-line harness connector and the Left Seat Airbag harness connector.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag in-line harness connector (under Left Seat).
- CHECK FOR OPEN (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT IN THE BODY HARNESS TO THE SEAT WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) from the in-line harness connector (body side).
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
NOTE:Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the (special tool #10159, Test Leads, Dedicated), test lead 10159-6. Or a comparable test lead to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- Connect the test probes to the appropriate ORC harness connector terminal(s).
- Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between the appropriate cavity and the in-line harness connector (body side).
Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair or Replace the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit for an open or high resistance in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR AN OPEN (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT IN THE BODY HARNESS
- Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the appropriate cavity and the in-line harness connector (body side).
Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm?
Yes
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair or Replace the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit for an open or high resistance in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the appropriate cavity and the in-line harness connector (body side).
- CHECKING STORED OR INTERMITTENT CODES NOTE:
Diagnose and repair all active codes before diagnosing stored codes. Refer to the DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX for a complete list of airbag system diagnostic procedures.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires, and for broken, bent, pushed out, corroded, and contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Reconnect all disconnected components and harness connectors.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, monitor for active codes while performing the following:
- Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related airbag circuit.
- Continue the test until either a code becomes active or the problem area is isolated.
- In the previous steps you have attempted to recreate the conditions responsible for setting the DTC in question/causing the intermittent condition.
Are any ACTIVE DTCs present?
Yes
- Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No
- No problem found at this time. Erase all codes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- With the scan tool, record and erase all Airbag System Module DTCs.
