Bulb - Hatchback

NOTE:

The Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) contains five individual incandescent bulbs. The service procedure for each of these bulbs is the same.

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  3. Unsnap the plastic covers over the two mounting holes (1) used to secure the upper trim cover to the inner liftgate panel above the glass.
  4. Remove the two screws that secure the upper trim cover to the inner liftgate panel.

  5. Pull the upper trim cover away from the liftgate far enough to access the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) (2) secured to the back of the trim cover.
  6. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the connector receptacle on the left end of the CHMSL socket plate.

  7. Push the latch tab (1) on the right end of the socket plate inward while lifting the right end of the socket plate away from the CHMSL housing (2).
  8. Swing the right end of the socket plate upward far enough to disengage the hinge tabs on the left end of the unit from the hinge pivot pin on the left end of the CHMSL housing.
  9. Firmly grasp and pull the ineffective bulb straight out of the CHMSL socket plate.
