Pedal(S), Brake And/Or Accelerator: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable from its post on the battery.
- If equipped, remove the knee blocker air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, REMOVAL

- Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt (2) and separate the intermediate shaft (1) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (3).Discard the pinch bolt (2); it is not to be reused.
- Position the intermediate shaft (2) so that the pedal assembly can be accessed.
- Remove the two mounting bolts (1) from the support bracket (2).
- Remove the support bracket (2).NOTE:
For manual transmissions follow steps 7-12, for automatic transmissions proceed to step 13.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Disconnect the supply pipe from the master cylinder and plug both openings.
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL
.
- Remove the supply hose from the brake master cylinder and plug both openings.
- Disconnect the clutch start (1) switch.
- Remove the stop lamp switch. Refer to REMOVAL
.
- Disengage clips (1) on booster rod keeper assembly retainer (2). Position retainer (2) up to remove booster rod from pedal assembly.
- Remove the four nuts (3) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) (and power brake booster) to the dash panel.
- Remove the remaining two nuts (2) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) to the dash panel.
- Remove the brake pedal sled (1).
- Remove the brake pedal keeper (2) from the brake pedal assembly (1) by pressing outwards on the wings of the keeper and then in towards the pedal assembly.
- The brake pedal keeper must be discarded and cannot be reused.
