Pedal(S), Brake And/Or Accelerator: Installation

NOTE:
The brake pedal keeper (2) cannot be reused. Always install a new keeper if the brake pedal push rod was separated from the keeper.
NOTE:
Always use
NEW
Brake Pedal/Booster Mounting Nuts anytime the brake pedal assembly has been removed.
- Install a NEW booster rod keeper (2) by pressing the keeper onto the backside of the brake pedal assembly (1).
- Press the keeper until the wings (2) snap onto the brake pedal assembly to ensure it is secured to the assembly.
- Carefully install the brake pedal and bracket assembly (1) in the vehicle lining up the bracket with the power brake booster mounting studs and the studs on the dash panel.
- Install four NEW nuts (3) attaching the brake pedal (1) (and power brake booster) to the dash panel. Do not tighten the nuts at this time.
- Install two NEW remaining nuts (2) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) to the dash panel. Tighten these nuts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten the brake pedal/booster mounting nuts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .NOTE:
The brake pedal booster rod keeper (2) cannot be reused. Always install a new keeper if the brake pedal push rod was separated from the keeper.
- Install the power brake booster push rod and retainer (2) into NEW booster rod keeper, ensuring that the clips (1) are engaged.
- Install and adjust the stop lamp switch in the brake pedal bracket. Refer to INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
If equipped with manual transmissions follow steps 9 - 16, for automatic transmissions proceed to step 17.
- Connect the clutch start switch (1).
- Install the supply hose to the brake master cylinder crimp the NEW hose clamp with Crimping Pliers (special tool #10288, Pliers, Hose Clamp).
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Connect the supply pipe (1) to the master cylinder.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
- Install the battery. Refer to BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
- Bleed the clutch hydraulic circuit. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Install and adjust the stop lamp switch in the brake pedal bracket. Refer to INSTALLATION

- Install the support bracket (2).
- Install support bracket mounting bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .NOTE:
A new pinch bolt (3) must be installed every time the pinch bolt is removed.
- Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
- Install the intermediate shaft (1) into the vehicle. Slide the intermediate shaft onto the steering gear pinion shaft (3).
- Install a NEW pinch bolt (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the knee blocker airbag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, INSTALLATION .
- If equipped, install the silencer pad below the instrument panel.
- Connect the battery negative cable to its post on the battery.
- Check the stop lamps to verify they are operating properly and not staying on when the pedal is in the released position.
- Road test the vehicle to ensure proper operation of the brakes.
