Outer Tie Rod End

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING .
  2. Remove the wheel mounting bolts (1), then the tire and wheel assembly.

  3. Loosen the tie rod jam nut.
  4. Remove the nut (4) attaching the outer tie rod (5) to the knuckle (3).

    NOTE:

    When unscrewing the outer tie rod from inner, count the number of revolutions to take it off. This action will aid in installation, getting the toe close to where it needs to be when setting the wheel alignment.

  5. Release the tie rod end (3) from the knuckle (2) using (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) (1).
  6. Remove the outer tie rod (3) from the knuckle (2).
  7. Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
