Unit, Telematics Control: Operation
A registered Telematics Control Unit (TCU) can receive remote requests from a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) communication to perform remote operations through an available Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV/500e) mobile application (app) installed on the user's smart phone. Available remote features include the following:
- Charge Now - Begin immediate battery charging
- Charge Station Availability and Locations - Identify charging station availability and locations using the Global Positioning System (GPS)
- Door Lock and Unlock - Lock or unlock driver door
- Horn and Lights - Activate the vehicle signal horn and exterior lights
- Report Vehicle Health Status - Reports all present pertinent vehicle settings and conditions
- Send Destination to Car - Forward a travel destination to the navigation system in the vehicle
- Vehicle Charge Profile Update - Update battery charging schedule
- Vehicle Climate Control Preconditioning - Activate the Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems to precondition the passenger compartment
- Vehicle Location Finder - Identify the current vehicle location using GPS
TCU communication internal to the vehicle is accomplished through electronic messaging over the Controller Area Network (CAN) B data bus. TCU external communication occurs using an integral internal modem and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular antenna over the cellular server networks of the SDP using Next Generation Telematics Platform (NGTP) 2.0 protocol.
TCU registration and the BEV/500e mobile application are available through a Uconnect™ web site at: https://www.uconnectaccess.fiatusa.com/bevsubscribe/basicSubscription.jsp . Once at the web site, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and Connectivity ID are required. The Connectivity ID is stored in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) of the vehicle. The Connectivity ID is retrieved from the IPC by pressing the MENU button, choosing settings then scrolling down to and selecting the connectivity ID entry.
Registration is completed after the VIN, connectivity ID, contact information, a user name and a password have been entered. Questions about the registration process may be directed to the BEV/500e Call Center at: (855) 261-5364. Once registration is successfully completed, the user will be directed to the BEV/500e owner's web site where the smart phone mobile app may be downloaded. Once the app is successfully installed, the smart phone will require a valid data connection any time the app will be used.
The TCU will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for any problem it detects. A DTC may be retrieved and the problem diagnosed using a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
