Unit, Telematics Control: Installation
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
- Position the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) (4) and mounting bracket into the vehicle as a unit.
- Reconnect the wire harness connector (3) to the TCU connector receptacle.
- Position the TCU mounting bracket to the evaporator housing and the instrument panel support structure.
- Install and tighten the screw (2) that secures the outboard end of the TCU mounting bracket to the instrument panel support structure. Tighten the screw securely.
- Install and tighten the nut that secures the inboard end of the TCU mounting bracket to the evaporator housing. Tighten the nut securely.
- Reinstall the cover onto the instrument panel. Refer to COVER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .
- Perform the 12-Volt Power Up procedure. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
If the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) has been replaced with a new unit, the shipping mode must be disabled using a diagnostic scan tool and a TCU registration procedure must be completed by the vehicle owner to restore TCU functionality.
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
