Valve, A/C Expansion: Removal

Review the warnings and cautions for this system before performing the procedure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

  1. Remove the electric motor trim cover.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the 12-volt negative battery cable.
  3. Power down the high-voltage system. Refer to 12-VOLT POWER DOWN .
  4. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  5. Remove the nuts (3) that secure the A/C suction line (2) and A/C liquid line (4) to the A/C expansion valve (1).
  6. Disconnect the A/C suction and liquid lines from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.

  7. Remove the two bolts (1) that secure the A/C expansion valve (2) to the evaporator tube tapping block.
  8. Remove the A/C expansion valve from the evaporator tubes and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  9. Install plugs in, or tape over, the opened refrigerant line fittings and evaporator ports.
