DECKLID/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate/Swing Gate: Hinge: Removal
NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the liftgate to replace one or both hinges. The hinges can be replaced one at a time.
NOTE:
A suitable body sealant should be used when removing or moving the hinges.
- Remove the rear shelf panel (2). Refer to PANEL, REAR SHELF, REMOVAL .
- Remove the C-pillar trims. Refer to PANEL, C-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
- Remove the liftgate opening weatherstrip (1) along the perimeter of the headliner (2).
- With the use of a trim remover (special tool #C-4829A, Remover, Trim) or equivalent, remove the two push pin fasteners (3) from the headliner.
- Lower the rear of the headliner (2).
- Support the liftgate, with the use of a suitable lifting device.
- Disconnect the liftgate support cylinders (2) from the liftgate side (1). Refer to PROP, GAS, REMOVAL .
- Apply 2-3 layers of masking tape along the rear roof edge to protect finish on the liftgate spoiler.
- Using a china maker/grease pen or equivalent, make reference marks where the hinge is mounted to the liftgate and to the header panel.
- Place a block under the lift gate and remove the nuts (3) from the hinge (1) located on the body.
- Remove the fasteners (2) securing the hinge to the liftgate.
- Remove the fastener (3) securing the hinge to the header panel.
- Remove the hinge (1) from the vehicle.
