Frame, Seat Back, Rear: Removal

CAUTION:

When the seat is removed from the vehicle, only use the back rest adjustment lever to move the back rest. Do not use the seat folding lever to move the back rest. Damage may occur to the seat folding mechanism.

  1. Remove the seat to be serviced. Refer to SEAT, REAR, REMOVAL .
    2. NOTE:

    Right side seat shown, left seat similar except where noted.

  3. On the outboard side cover (3), using a small flat bladed tool or equivalent, remove the fastener cover from the recliner lever (2) and fastener (4).
  4. Remove the fasteners (1 and 4).
  5. Remove the recliner lever (2).
  6. Remove the fastener cover from the rear of the side cover (5) and remove the fastener within.
  7. Remove the outboard side cover (3) from the seat.

  8. On the inboard side cover (1), using a small flat bladed tool or equivalent, remove the fastener cover from the fastener (3).
  9. Remove the fasteners (3) from the inboard side cover.
  10. Remove the fasteners cover and fastener from the rear of the inboard side cover (2).
  11. Remove the inboard side cover (1) from the seat.
  12. Remove the headrest(s) from the seat. Refer to HEADREST, REMOVAL .

  13. Locate or create three steel wire tools. The tools requirements are as follows:
    NOTE:

    Do not use soft metal to avoid bending of the tools during usage.

    1. Handle end of tool (1) 80-90 mm (3-3.5 in.)
    2. Insertion end of tool (2) 32 mm (1.25 in.)
    3. Thickness of tool (3) 1.7-2 mm
    4. A beveled end (4) is required to access the retainers within the lever bezel.

    CAUTION:

    When the seat is removed from the vehicle, only use the back rest adjustment lever to move the back rest. Do not use the seat folding lever to move the back rest. Damage may occur to the seat folding mechanism.

  14. With the help of an assistant, raise the seat folding lever (1) and keep it raised without lowering the back rest.
  15. Fit the tools into the three slots (2) of the seat folding lever bezel (3).

    NOTE:

    All three tools must be inserted into the three slots and releasing the clips at the same time.

  16. Push the tools down, keeping them against the sides (2) of the folding lever bezel (1).
  17. As the tools are inserted downward they will release the clips located in the slots (3) releasing it from the bezel inner retaining clips.
  18. Raise and remove the seat folding lever bezel (2) from the housing.
  19. Unfasten the seat back cover material from the tabs on the seat folding lever housing.

  20. Temporarily install the recliner lever to the outboard side cover area and carefully move the back rest forward.
  21. Untuck the ends of the right and left side zippers (1) and bottom zipper (3) from the bottom of the seat back cover (2).
  22. Unfasten both side zippers (1) and bottom zipper (3).
    NOTE:

    Right seat only.

  23. Remove the center seat belt buckle anchor. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .

  24. Lift the seat back cover lower area (1) separating the hook and loop fastener (2).
  25. Use the temporarily installed the recliner lever to raise the seat back.
    NOTE:

    Right side seat only.

  26. Remove the arm rest. Refer to ARMREST, REAR, REMOVAL .

    NOTE:

    Shown without back rest seat cover and cushion for clarity.

  27. Right side seat, raise the seat back cushion slightly and unfasten J-channel retainers from the back of the seat cover arm rest area.
  28. Raise the front of the back rest cushion and cover to access the head restraint sleeves (1).
  29. With the use of a hook tool (2) or equivalent, press in the head restraint sleeve retaining tab.

  30. Remove the four headrest sleeves (3) from the right side seat or two headrest sleeves from the left side seat.
    NOTE:

    Seat belt cover (1) is right side seat only.

  31. Remove the two seat belt cover fasteners (2).
  32. Remove the seat belt cover (1).
  33. Lift the seat back cover and cushion off the seat back frame.

  34. Remove the fasteners (2) from the seat adjuster cover (1).
  35. Remove the seat adjuster cover (1) from the seat.
  36. Repeat on the opposite side.

  37. With the use of a trim remover (special tool #C-4829A, Remover, Trim) or equivalent, remove the retainers from the rear close out cover (2).
  38. Remove the rear close out cover (2) from the seat.
    NOTE:

    Seat belt buckle anchor is only required when servicing the right side seat.

  39. Remove the center seat belt buckle anchor. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .
  40. Release the hook and loop fastener from the front closeout cover.

  41. With the use of a trim remover (special tool #C-4829A, Remover, Trim) or equivalent, remove the retainers (2) from the front close out cover (2).
  42. Remove front close out cover (2).

  43. Unfasten the hook and loop fastener (1).
  44. Repeat on the opposite side.
  45. Release the J-channel fasteners (2) from the perimeter of the seat cushion frame (3).
  46. Remove the seat cushion and cover from the seat cushion frame.

  47. Cut the zip ties (1) off the sides of the back panel (3).
  48. Release the back panel clips (4) from the seat back frame.
  49. Lift the back panel (3) up, releasing the seat panel hooks (2) from the seat back frame.

  50. If servicing the right side seat, remove the seat retractor fastener (2) and remove the seat belt retractor (1).

  51. Remove the seat belt buckle fastener.
  52. Remove the seat belt buckle from the seat back frame.
