TENSIONER, Engine Timing: Description
The timing belt tensioner is mounted to the cylinder head. It has a spring loaded offset hub and a tension indicator (2). Rotating the tensioner hub counterclockwise against internal spring pressure applies tension to the timing belt. When the slots are aligned (2) the timing belt tension is correct. Lock the tensioner in this position by tightening the nut (1).
NOTE:
If the hub slot is to the left side of the alignment, timing belt tension is insufficient. If the hub slot is right of the alignment, timing belt tension is excessive.
