Cover(S), Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the engine cover (Refer to 09 - Engine/COVER, Engine/Removal).
  4. Remove the vehicle battery. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the throttle body air intake hose. Refer to COOLER AND HOSES, CHARGE AIR, REMOVAL .

  6. Disconnect the engine RPM sensor wire harness connector (1).
  7. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor wire harness connector (2).

  8. Disengage the wire harness from the retaining clips (1).

  9. Remove the bolts (1) from the wire harness retainer bracket.

  10. Remove the screws (1a) and remove the wire harness retainer bracket (1b).

  11. Loosen the band clamp and disconnect the turbocharger air intake hose (1) from the air filter body.

  12. Open the retaining clip (1) and disengage the Wastegate actuator air control tube.
  13. Loosen the band clamps (2) and disconnect the engine oil vapor pipes.

  14. Open the clip (1a), loosen the clamp and disconnect the Wastegate control solenoid valve air return pipe (1b).
  15. Loosen the clamp (2a) and remove the air intake pipe (2b) from the turbocharger.

  16. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the idle oil vapor delivery pipe (1).

  17. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the oil vapor recovery pipe (1) from the cylinder head cover.

  18. Remove the bolt (1) from the engine oil vapor pipe middle support bracket.

  19. Remove the bolts and remove the complete oil vapor separator (1).

  20. Remove the O-ring (1) from the cylinder head cover.

  21. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground terminal (1).
  22. Disconnect the electrical connections from the ignition coils (2).
  23. Remove the bolts and remove the ignition coils (3).

  24. Open the clips and disengage the pipes (1).
  25. Disengage the fuel vapor solenoid valve (2) from the retaining bracket.
  26. Remove the bolt (3a) and remove the intake manifold support bracket (3b).

  27. Remove the fasteners (1a) and remove the manifold support bracket (1b).

  28. Remove the nuts (1a) and remove the ignition coil heat shield (1b).

  29. Remove the nut and bolts (1a) and remove the turbocharger mounting bracket (1b).

  30. Remove the bolt and remove the upper timing belt cover (1).

    CAUTION:

    Do not use oil based liquids, wire brushes, abrasive wheels or metal scrapers to clean the engine gasket surfaces. Use only isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, along with plastic or wooden scrapers. Improper gasket surface preparation may result in engine fluid leakage.

  33. Remove all residual sealant (1) from the variable valve actuator assembly, camshaft caps, camshaft housing and cylinder head cover mating surfaces

    Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
