Diagnostic Test
- CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTION
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Radio C3 harness connector.
- Inspect the Audio Antenna harness connection.
Is the Antenna connection clean and secure?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Repair the Antenna connection as needed.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- RADIO
- Connect the antenna (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) to the Radio C3 component connector.
- Place the test antenna base on the roof of the vehicle.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Drive the vehicle outside to an un-obstructed area.
- Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.
- Note any of the following type of reception concerns being heard:
- Silence
- Static
- Noise
- Popping
- Screeching
- Hissing
- Crackling
- Humming
- Weak Signal
- Interference
- Motor Sound
Is the audio reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Replace the Radio in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- DETERMINE THE ANTENNA LOCATION
Does this vehicle have sales code RDL (Windshield Antenna)?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Go To 4
- ANTENNA
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the Radio C3 harness connector.
- Disconnect the Radio Antenna harness connector.
- Connect the antenna (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) to the Radio Antenna harness connector.
- Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.
- Note any of the following type of reception concerns being heard:
- Silence
- Static
- Noise
- Popping
- Screeching
- Hissing
- Crackling
- Humming
- Weak Signal
- Interference
- Motor Sound
Is the audio reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Replace the Radio Antenna in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- ANTENNA CABLE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the antenna (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) from the Radio Antenna harness connector.
- Connect the appropriate jumper (special tool #9977-6-4, Jumper) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-2, Jumper) (1) to the Radio Antenna harness connector (2) at the Antenna.
- Disconnect the Radio C3 harness connector.
- Connect the appropriate adapter (special tool #9977-6-1, Adapter) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-3, Adapter) (1) to the Radio C3 harness connector (2).
- Measure the resistance across the tool terminals.
Is the resistance between 47.5 and 52.5 Ohms?
Yes
- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Antenna Cable or Radio Antenna.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Antenna Cable in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- ANTENNA WITH SALES CODE RDL
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the Radio C3 harness connector.
- Disconnect the Radio Antenna harness connector at the Radio Antenna Module.
- Connect the antenna (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) to the Radio Antenna harness connector.
- Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.
- Note any of the following type of reception concerns being heard:
- Silence
- Static
- Noise
- Popping
- Screeching
- Hissing
- Crackling
- Humming
- Weak Signal
- Interference
- Motor Sound
Is the audio reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Go To 8
- ANTENNA CABLE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the antenna (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) from the Radio Antenna harness connector.
- Connect the appropriate jumper (special tool #9977-6-4, Jumper) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-2, Jumper) (1) to the Radio Antenna harness connector (2) at the Antenna.
- Disconnect the Radio C3 harness connector.
- Connect the appropriate adapter (special tool #9977-6-1, Adapter) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-3, Adapter) (1) to the Radio C3 harness connector (2).
- Measure the resistance across the tool terminals.
Is the resistance between 47.5 and 52.5 Ohms?
Yes
- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Antenna Cable or Radio Antenna.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Antenna Cable in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- RADIO ANTENNA MODULE
- Replace the Antenna Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Drive the vehicle outside to an un-obstructed area.
- Turn the Radio on and select several different known good stations from the AM and FM bands.
- Note any of the following type of reception concerns being heard:
- Silence
- Static
- Noise
- Popping
- Screeching
- Hissing
- Crackling
- Humming
- Weak Signal
- Interference
- Motor Sound
Is the audio reception still poor or not available?
Yes
- Replace the Radio Antenna in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The source of the poor reception was caused by the Radio Antenna Module.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
