Section 70 (Starting (Service Information) 500): Starter: Removal: Removal

Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
Remove the battery.
Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) wire harness connectors.
Disconnect the PCM ground strap from the battery (-) terminal.
Disengage the two starter wire harness retainers (6) from the battery tray (3).
Disengage the engine wire harness connector (2) from the battery tray (3) and reposition.
Remove the nut (5) and two bolts (1).
Open the two wire harness retainers (3) and reposition the wire harness.

Remove the battery tray (1) keeping the PCM (2) attached.

Remove the starter bolt access plug (1) located on the back side of the transmission bell housing to gain access to the top starter bolt.

Remove the starter bolt (2) through the access hole (1) in the transmission bell housing.
Support and raise the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING .

Remove the belly pan (1) covering the bottom side of the engine compartment.

Remove the four bolts (1) and the lower cradle brace (2).

Remove the nut (1) from the starter solenoid (3).
Disconnect the starter solenoid wire harness connector (2).
Remove bolts (4) and the starter assembly (5) from the vehicle.
